2010..
i just finished watchin 2010 - the year we made contact, the sequel to kubricks original 2001. to preface, i realize a lot of people either didnt like the first or turned it off before they fell asleep cuz it was borin--ill admit 2001 has it slow parts, but i found it to be a very fascinatin and thought-provokin film. maybe its cuz by default im sort of a sci-fi fan who enjoys a mysterious premise and the struggle between man & machine (HAL 9000 rocked). i think wut i also relished about the original was its endin--not really a decisively-happy one but makes one think long after the movies over..
anyways, i downloaded 2010 for wutever reason and watched it--and its very different, if not in style and in purpose. basically, i believe it was made to: 1) explain the original, and 2) capture some of the resurgence in the sci-fi box office thanks to star wars. roy scheider (of jaws fame) stars in wut is straight-forward filmmakin, which is unlike the original. we follow him as he goes into space to discover wut happened w/ the mission that took place in the first film..
unlike a lot of the negative reviews it got, i found it to be fairly enjoyable cuz it kinda extends the narrative of 2001 while expandin the idea of makin contact w/ new life..
so i wouldnt say id necessarily recommend this movie to you cuz it depends on wut you like. but id watch it again..
by the way, one of my favorite films is contact..
