all-star thoughts..

jordan_allstar.jpgwow, wut a weekend. even though it was primarily a two-day mj-luvfest, almost every event was fun to watch:

- only caught the 2nd half of the rookie vs soph game, but it seemed to a be pretty good game--until gilbert arenas and jrich decided to turn it into the we-are-the-warriors-hear-us-roar show by jackin up the 3s. actually, i enjoyed watchin arenas play well, but jrich may have taken it a little too far by disrespectin boozer by bouncin the ball of his dome. at least, he made the shot..

- the skillz challenge was pretty coo cuz of the four players in it (kidd, payton, starbury, and tony parker). its interestin to see only parker makin the bounce pass w/ the fundamentally-correct two hands..

- the celebrity 3-on-3 was lame. its basically amounts to the magic johnson and friends show..

- amazingly, the 3-pt shootout came down to another overtime duel between wesley person and peja stojakovic, the latter comin out on top. wow, peja can really light it up--as long as hes not playin the lakers. and person--very suhweet and smooth stroke..

jrich.jpgdmason.jpg

- but the event of the nite was the dunk contest and it belonged to jrich. i guess one really had to watch it, but i thought desmond mason sealed it w/ his first dunk: a drivin between-the-legs LEFT-HANDED flush!! everyone was goin nutz. jrichs first was pretty avg. dmasons next (and final) was also avg. so basically goin into the last dunk of the nite, youre thinkin its over--richardson has nothin left in his bag, the crown is desmonds. but then..

jrich lines up in the corner, tosses up a rainbow, then drives baseline for a REVERSE-thru-the-legs LEFT-HANDED reverse slam!! are you kiddin??!! vince, do you know waht you started??

anyways, that was the topper. wut made it great was seein two high-flyers out-duelin each other; the way the contest should be. hasnt been seen since chicago '88. instant classic..

so that was the excitement on saturday. sundays all-star game was great, for the most part. i began writin about almost everythin in the game, but after readin the sports guys diary of it i thought itd be better if i just shared my thoughts on some precious moments..

shaq_dribble.jpg- best imitation of a point guard: shaq bringin the ball up the court, then hangin around the three-pt line to showboat in front of brad miller by dribblin between his legs, liftin each one as high as they would go in a slow duck walk? haha, it was great--i was laughin so hard. ill give it to the big man--he knows how to have fun..

- tv gripe: why do they always hafta go to that above-the-basket angle on a fast-break finish?? dont they know we actually wanna SEE the player jump off the ground??

- id like my team super-sized, please: there was some talk pre-game of whether or not rick adelman would have both yao and shaq playin out on the court at the same time. well, he gave us that sight to see--and then it to the nth degree. at the end of the first half, he went w/ a line-up of yao at 5, shaq at 4, td at 3, kg at 2, and francis at the 1!! super-sized indeed. its almost like somethin id do playin nba live. cept i wouldve had nowitzki at the 1 to make it a near all 7-ft line-up..

- wnba players take note: wut a--um--interestin outfit mariah sported durin halftime. how dya think esther would react if i tried it on?

- peace: the thing i liked most about mjs speech at halftime was him sayin he could now "go home and feel at peace with the game of basketball". cuz i think, above all else, thats wut this season has been about for him: comin to terms w/ the fact that this really is it. no more itches, no more 99.9%s, no more. its time to go..

mj_rainbow.jpg- wut a beautiful rainbow: that high-arcin shot mj made over the matrix w/ six secs left in OT was suhweet. i thinki woke up the neighbors yellin so loudly. it was incredible and beautiful at once. everyone thought it was over: game-winner, mvp, and storybook endin..

- dumb and dumber: can you believe stoopid jermaine oneal fouled kobe takin a desperation 3 at the end of the first OT period? and can you believe the stoopider ref actually blew the whistle when he shouldve swallowed it??

the thing is im actually kinda glad it didnt end as a fairytale. cuz thats the real world. and things dont always work out the way we want em too..

however, despite the actual endin, mj proved he can still be clutch--who else starts out shootin 2 of 13, yet can pick it up in the 2nd to finish w/ 20 pts and the apparent game-winner.

mj_thanks.jpgyes, moneys name is mj and from all i saw, i think he genuinely had fun in atlanta. the weekend wouldnt have been the same w/o him..

* um, i just realized wut this blog entry has turned into: an nba-version of tuesday mornin qb. great, i am wut i read..

* gawd, i wish my dog would stop fartin--cant frickin breathe. precious air..
