the lakers cried wolf..

kg.jpg
uh shaq, youd be better off
tuckin in that jersey than tryin
to block da kid..
im so happy right now: minnesota just beat the purple-and-gold in OT and w/o kg down the stretch!!

yeah, theyll probly not win the series (although i now think they have as good a shot as sacramento or san antonio). but they proved two important things tonite:

1) the timberwolves are makin their first step to the next level - this series reminds me of the kings-jazz one in '99 when sacramento pushed utah to the brink. a team w/ little expectation to win just beat the lakers TWO games in a row!! and they beat em on the ROAD!! this could be the beginnin..

2) the lakers are vulnerable - wutever did not work in the regular season, dr phil tried to sweep under the rug goin into the playoffs. yet its clear the defendin champs are lackin things they had in previous years. their defense is porous (the twolves shot +50% these last two games), they sorely lack a competent PF to play next to or back up shaq (mark madsen?? pleeze), and they have no "moxie" (as phil likes to say)--the confidence and determination to win when theyre down by 15 has been replaced w/ arrogance and conceit..

this may be it--theyre goin down..

(he says while knockin on wood)

five sequels i wanna see this summer..

5. bad boys 2 - the millionth time martin lawrence plays himself.....as a cop. and yet, ill still go watch it cuz hes so damn funny..

4. terminator 3 - a bit iffy on this one only cuz its not helmed by james cameron..

3. dumb and dumberer - jim carrey, back from "acting".. (* addendum - shoot, dans right: no jim carrey!! and no farrelly brothers!! hmm, maybe i should replace this w/ "legally blonde 2"..)

2. x2 - faithfulness to the comic book made the first. hopefully, itll continue..

1. the matrix reloaded - a little worried cuz there may be too much buildup and hype. and now that neo knows hes the o-n-e, will the ride be the same?

oh, and if i could list a sixth it would be spy kids 3-D!! (oh, theyre so cool--and yes, im kiddin)..

maybe ill name my kid "virgil"..

so esther and i saw better luck tomorrow last nite. very interestin movie. i liked it--actually, i more than liked it. im somewhere between 'liked it' and 'really liked it'..

im not good at summarizin plus, im not one to re-iterate plots. but i would classify it as a dark comedy w/ 'comedy' bein used in the haha-sense of the word not in the shakespearean..

i saw the preview for it a few real world episodes ago w/ the milf guy doin a monologue (i first thought it was a public service announcement w/ me thinkin: "how sad--from box-office-hit to canned-tv-show to talk-to-your-kids-commercials..") and found it very intriguing. it wasnt until i read a friends review that i realized the film had an asian-american slant. so then i became even more intrigued..

however (<-- bad grammar), i actually didnt think it was that asian in nature. i went into the theatre expectin some sort of asians-lost-in-america propaganda and came out pleased that it was anythin but. while the asian-american sub-text was weaved into the story, the plot and themes didnt revolve around it so much. a wash post review i read said it best: "Lin [the director] simply takes his Asian American context for granted, rarely addressing it explicitly yet making it an inextricable element of his characters and their stories."

i think wut this movie did for me (why do i hear jfk when i say that? "ask not wut a movie can do for you but...") was make me wish i had done more things in high school. not necessarily the things these kids in the film did, but just things that may have accelerated my growth as a person (yeah, as opposed to a 5'5, slight-framed, acne-faced teen). it reminds me of things i had desired back at that age--whether i was aware of em or not--and the decisions i made then whose consequences (or lack thereof) i still wonder about now..

hence, better luck tomorrow i guess..

to be a better person..

found these amusin tips in esquire under the title, how to be a deadbeat..

- "late fees at video-rental stores? restock the item on the shelf. when the late charge is applied later, insist you returned it on time and demand that they check the shelf. also works at libraries."

- "upgrade you dvd collection: rent the special-edition dvd, remove, and return with the standard dvd."

yes..

again and again..

THREE MOVIES I WATCH AGAIN AND AGAIN EVERY FRICKIN TIME THEYRE ON TNT/TBS BECAUSE THEY END SO WELL

when harry met sally - "I love that you get cold when it's 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle in your nose when you're looking at me like I'm nuts. I love that after I spend day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it's not because I'm lonely, and it's not because it's New Year's Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible."

the american president - "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil who is standing center stage advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours... The symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Now show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free... My name is Andrew Shepherd and I AM the President."

the shawshank redemption - "Get busy living, or get busy dying. That's goddamn right. For the second time in my life I'm guilty of committing a crime: Parole Violation. 'Course I doubt they'll toss up any road blocks for that, not for an old crook like me. I find I'm so excited I can barely sit still or hold a thought in my head. I imagine it's the excitement only a free man can feel. A free man at the start of a long journey, whose conclusion is uncertain. I hope I can make it across the border... I hope to see my friend and shake his hand... I hope the pacific is a blue as it has been in my dreams... I hope..."

gawd, im such a sap..
