back to reality..
doesnt it suck when people dont update their stoopid blogs??
haha, yeah--so im back. back from vacation and back to reality..
i/we have been back since the beginnin of the month. we took off a day earlier than initially planned cuz of the then-impendin hurricane and after spendin several relaxin and feast-filled days in st louis, we headed out for our long-awaited honeymoon to hawaii..
and wow, it was awesome..
optin for a more laid-back vacation, we went to wut is known as the "big island", known for its less urban development, lusher landscape, and volcanic national park (which we did not check out). we stayed in the very posh, very $$$$ four seasons hotel, which probly tripled our enjoyment--fantastic location, exceptional service, and everythin we could ask for. includin an outdoor shower (and yes, it was enclosed)..
spendin about a week there, we tried to stay busy (yeah, right). we canoed out on an outrigger in the ocean. we snorkeled w/ eagle rays and sea turtles (ask esther about the octopus). we went to the must-see lu'au..
but most of all, we just laid out in the sun to swim and tan--and chill. damn, it was so pretty and serene out there--water so blue esther kept sayin it looked like listerine. it was a little more humid than i thought it would be, but did i care? we were in hawaii!!
it was a great time because it was a very relaxin time. and that was, by far, the most important thing--restin and recoverin from life, esp for the wife. oh, and also gettin her a tan..
but now, we are back entrenched in the real world, trudgin along w/ the unnecessities of life and esther back on-call every three nites (amazin, i really dunno how she does it)--hawaii but a faint memory..
and the thing i cant get over is if i liked hawaii so much, wuts stoppin me from livin there? granted, there are the feasibility issues of money and career. but honestly, if i/we really wanted to, we could..
cuz if all we do is work to make money to spend it on vacations like the one we just took, why not just move there?
guess it reminds me of the oft-told story i heard when i first started workin (what will my reward be?)..
..
One day a fisherman was lying on a beautiful beach, with his fishing pole propped up in the sand and his solitary line cast out into the sparkling blue surf. He was enjoying the warmth of the afternoon sun and the prospect of catching a fish.
About that time, a businessman came walking down the beach, trying to relieve some of the stress of his workday. He noticed the fisherman sitting on the beach and decided to find out why this fisherman was fishing instead of working harder to make a living for himself and his family.
"You aren't going to catch many fish that way," said the businessman to the fisherman. "You should be working rather than lying on the beach!"
The fisherman looked up at the businessman, smiled and replied, "And what will my reward be?" "Well, you can get bigger nets and catch more fish!" was the businessman's answer.
"And then what will my reward be?" asked the fisherman, still smiling. The businessman replied, "You will make money and you'll be able to buy a boat, which will then result in larger catches of fish!"
"And then what will my reward be?" asked the fisherman again. The businessman was beginning to get a little irritated with the fisherman's questions. "You can buy a bigger boat, and hire some people to work for you!" he said.
"And then what will my reward be?" repeated the fisherman. The businessman was getting angry. "Don't you understand? You can build up a fleet of fishing boats, sail all over the world, and let all your employees catch fish for you!"
Once again the fisherman asked, "And then what will my reward be?" The businessman was red with rage and shouted at the fisherman, "Don't you understand that you can become so rich that you will never have to work for your living again! You can spend all the rest of your days sitting on this beach, looking at the sunset. You won't have a care in the world!"
The fisherman, still smiling, looked up and said, "And what do you think I'm doing right now?"
