utterly tragic..

oh no!!

it may seem trivial to most, but it is devastin to me. orbach plays my favorite of the cop characters in the entire run of the series. his sarcastic wit is somethin i revel in..

by the way, didja know he was the voice of lumière (the candelabra) in beauty & the beast? and yes, he did in fact sing..

* i havent been bloggin consistently in a few wks and i realize that. i would apologize cept i have nothin to be sorry for, right? this is my blog, not homework. and haha, it would appear the only thing i see worth writin about in this contemptible existence is this piece of crushin news..

..along w/ GO DUKE!!

least productive day of the year..

today is a great day. not just cuz we actually have an excuse to our lack of work, but cuz the openin rounds of the ncaa are a treat..

the games themselves arent always great since the matchups are so one-sided; however, its so excitin cuz: 1) there are so many games goin on at once (32 over two days, 48 over four), 2) there are so many teams featurin so many varyin styles of bball and philosophies, and 3) upsets lay just around the corner in the early rounds..

one yr, im gonna hafta take that first thurs and fri off so i can just sit at a bar and watch every single game..

anyways, here are my picks in my office pool..

ncaa_2004_small.jpg

yes, the eternal pessimist has uconn (U-S-U-C-K!!) KNOCKIN us out again and winnin the whole damn thang. in fillin this out, i realized i basically hate every team that has beat us at one pt or another: kentucky, wake, cincy, unc, stanford, md, state, and uconn..

but wut is really strange is my co-worker who is a big-time terps fan has duke as the last team standin..

gawd, i hope hes right..

red rum and other delightful drinks..

so wut follows is an amalgamated post ive been protractedly workin on over the past two weeks, since the cataclysmic breakdown in security this blog suffered durin my trip to vegas. i didnt mean for this entry to get so large and convoluted, but i just wrote when i felt like it and only now got to a state where i felt it could be posted.

im very good at puttin things off..

- i like to read books, but im not very good at it. or i should say, im not very disciplined about it..

yet nearly w/o fail, the one genre that wholly captivates my attention is true crime. i eat that serial killer-triple homicide-rampant psycho stuff up as if im at golden corral on steak nite..

but i dont grab any ole "true crime" book off the shelf in the library. its usually those which contain several cases that i latch onto (i probly have ADD), namely those written by john douglas. one and done..

i dont really know wut it is that so captures my mind when i read these books. it could be that these stories of horror are actually true. the thought that people actually take pleasure not just in the death of the others, but in causin their pain is crazy--yet engrossin. or maybe its the investigation and pursuit of the criminally-minded that enamor me. ill say ont thing--while the accounts in which the murderers are never found (much less identified) are incomplete, i still feel satisfied cuz though its tragic they can not be brought to justice (if such a thing really exists in someones death) it represents the reality of this world (aka, the good guys dont always win)..

so i checked out three of these kinds of books from the library the other day and though i never use the self-checkout machine, i considered it for a moment only cuz i wondered if the librarian would give me the strange eye and take my picture (and my books away), for evidence..

after all, who knows wut lurks in the hearts of men. maybe one day, something will set me off and ill just go crazy..

waitaminute, i already am crazy--hmmm..

- so vegas was a grand time. while blackjack consumed most of our time, i wished it had not cuz it also consumed most of my wallet..

i ended up at the poker tables only twice, but had a TON of fun while there (probly cuz i wasnt losing money). for me, when i play blackjack, i feel as though i am relinquishin control of the game (and my $$$) to the dealer, so that basically i am relyin on the luck of the draw (which sways w/ how much i tip the dealer). in texas hold em, at least i have the opportunity to fold before partin w/ my green..

but really, poker is just plain fun for me cuz its not as fast-paced/over-and-done as blackjack and cuz im playin other players (and not the house)..

actually, the game im most lookin fwd to play next time is video poker. multi-hand (you can draw up to 50 hands at once!) video poker at a nickel a bet. if anyone knows of any nice multi-hand games online, lemme know..

okay, enough about a fool partin w/ his (wife's hard-earned) money.

- this past weekend, esther and i hung out in chi-town. it was a sort-of last minute trip for me (she had an interview) and so we only stayed for the weekend but it was great. since it was st pattys, we saw em turn the river green(-er) usin RED powdery chemical. went to the downtown parade and made fun of everyone in it (we re so bad). hung out at the top of the hancock at nite (great view). and ate a lot of food--all w/ good company. its always a bit strange when friends from different worlds meet up w/ you, but in the end--its just people hangin out. had a ball..

- Give me a woman that loves beer and I'll conquer the world. - Kaiser Wilhelm

haha--great quote..

- and great game here (thanks mungmung). this may be gross and/or offensive to some--actually, it IS gross but may be offensive only to some (girls). click at your own risk..

this game has gotta be a distinctly korean-version of space invaders..

- so the greatest single weekday of the year is today as the ncaa bracket was unveiled yesterday and offices everywhere witnessed their productivity fall to nil for at least a few hrs in the morning as printers were jammed w/ brackets, broken pencils everywhere, and heads bangin on desks as people tried to decipher the correct formula which would lead them to pick the 1 winner of 65..

but damn if that winner is maryland--i am still pissed and despondent over that gawd-forsaken game yester. i wasnt even able to watch it since we had to head to the airport (thank gawd). but im not mad/depressed over the fact that we didnt win so much that we lost to the terps. i HATE maryland. despise em, abhor em, would like every one of em to d-i-e, esp their sweaty coach..

and no, im not jokin..

- but as far as our (dukes) ncaa hopes go, im not too confident (aah, the eternal pessimist surfaces). i just realized we are 6-4 in the last month. duhons our only legit ballhandler, everyones makin reddick put the ball on the floor, and shelden is our only post presence. we ll be lucky to make it to eight..

the thing w/ college bball is that i live and die by it--i discovered this bewilderin phenonomenon frosh yr. if we win, i can conquer the world--or at least, go on to study for my test. if we lose, i feel like doin nothin productive--life sucks and the next game is in four days..

live and die by the three, they say--live and die by the blue devil..
